Being Overweight During Pregnancy

When a pregnant woman is overweight or obese at the start of her pregnancy, she has greater risk of complications. Overweight means a BMI of 25 to 30. Obesity is a BMI of 30 or higher. It is therefore important to eat as healthy as possible and to live before and during pregnancy.

Gestational Diabetes

Gestational diabetes means that a woman has an increased blood sugar level during pregnancy. This can disappear after pregnancy.If the test reveals that you have gestational diabetes, the doctor will also refer you to a dietician. Together with you, she will examine which dietary adjustments can contribute to an improvement in your blood sugar.

Gestational Diabetes

Gestational diabetes means that a woman has an increased blood sugar level during pregnancy. This can disappear after the pregnancy. What are the effects of diabetes gestational ? For example, a pregnant woman with diabetes gestational has a higher risk of:
– high birth weight
– neonatal hypoglycaemia
– neonatal hyperbilirubinaemia
– increased chance of caesarean section
In addition, the chance is approximately 50% that the woman will develop type 2 diabetes within 5 post-pregnancy.
